Nicole is a lifelong advocate of education and the founder of Screen Time Clinic, a network of coaches empowering parents to reach their family's digital wellness goals through seminars, group courses, and personalized guidance. A secondary school teacher beginning in 1998, Nicole has taught in 5 different states, most recently featured on PBS for her literacy work with San Diego Unified in 2018. Nicole has seen first hand the positive impact strong parental involvement has in student's academic achievement efforts in school when they are well rested and guided to focus on the right priorities at home. With 22 years experience as a step-parent, parent, and single mom, Nicole knows all the challenges different stages of parenting involves. By consulting with psychologists and immersing herself in the science behind why screen time causes so many harms to children, Nicole became a digital wellness expert founding the company Screen Time Clinic to help others parents.
Her new book Screen Smart Sam was a labor of love, written to reach families with very young children to help prevent problems. Inspired by her work with families and her own family’s traumatic experience with technology when her sons were young, Screen Smart Sam is a compelling story for parents to read with elementary age children about the risks of too much screen time and simple steps that can be taken to correct or prevent overuse. Nicole has witnessed first hand the highly addictive effects personal tech has on children when the iPad was first introduced in 2006 causing her oldest son to become screen dependent and video game obsessed before removing devices at a crisis point in 2016 which lead to an amazing transformation many parents now experience when making changes to screen routines. Nicole coaches her clients with compassion and has a strong network of industry experts, a continual information stream on the latest research, and is an active member of The Children’s Screen Time Action Network, Campaign for Commercial Free Childhood, and The Digital Wellness Collective.
"Screen Smart Sam is a must-have for your family’s library at home. Following Sam on his journey of screen time addiction, shows the reader how too much time on devices can be detrimental to a child’s health. Sam began addicted to his phone at an early age and chose to look at his phone in place of sleeping, talking to friends face to face, engaging in physical activity, and being present in the moment. Parents recognize his obsession with his device and choose to become a “Screen Smart Family.” The Author, Nicole Rawson is an expert in Screen Smart Techniques and is the founder of Screen Time Clinic. In this book, she provides families with simple and useful techniques to support families and get them on track to becoming Screen Smart. As a School Psychologist, I am well aware of the dangers of too much screen time on children. Screen Smart Sam is an excellent book that teaches families about the dangers of too much screen time, and it provides tools to support children on how to use screen time more appropriately. I highly recommend this book!"

"I loved your book because for a while I played video games like Sam did, but now I know video games are ok when played once a week. I also loved your book because I learned that sometime kids become obsessed with games or their phone. I have a friend that often plays video games, maybe I can tell them about this book. I think your book is educational and amazing. 😊"
